Why "Backstage Librarians?"
Most library visitors know reference librarians from the research and information help desks and circulation librarians who keep the books flowing in and out of the library.
This blog is dedicated to shedding light on the librarians who make their jobs possible. These are the people you may never meet, though every librarian and customer relies on them doing their job consistently well.
The broad term in the library industry is technical services librarians.
For this blog, they've got the nickname "Backstage Librarian" because they make the unseen magic happen with the tools they use and create and....well, it has fewer syllables than "technical services librarians". That makes things catchy, right?
All of the profiles will be constructed through interviews via phone or live information interviews, so the tone will be conversational but the questions asked will be standardized.
Likely audience for this series: curious library staff wondering about colleagues, fans of libraries, and people interested in library careers.
If you are a technical services, web team,....etc. librarian and would like to be featured, leave a comment. And yes, I realize the chance of visitors is abysmally low at this stage of the blog.
